Shepshed Rooks Chess Club was established in the 70's (When Bobby Fischer was battling the Soviets for the World Championship.)
We currently meet at Hind Leys Community College Shepshed (Venue) on Thursday nights 8pm -10:15pm
After which some members drop into the local pub (The Black Swan) for a pint.
The season runs from beginning of October to middle of April. During the Summer months May - October the club does not meet up but some players choose to play in the County Championship and Summer Cups : all organised by the Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association - www.lrca.org.uk A visit to the website is well worthwhile.
The club currently (2017-2018 season) has two teams, both in Division 1 (the top division). For strong players in particular these are very exciting times to be a member of the club. We would love to have more talented players join us to bolster our place in the top flight, and to help the first team challenge for the Division 1 title.
Players come from a range of backgrounds in life: Gardeners, Engineers, Accountants, IT hobbyists and retired seniors.
As well as League Chess we play internal tournaments and have trophies for the best performing players both overall and for personal bests.
